Founded in Port-au-Prince in 2012, The Spirit of Haiti was established to preserve and promote the ancestral distillation traditions of the Haitian countryside. At its inception, the company recognized that while Haiti contained a vast network of artisanal micro-distilleries producing Clairin Traditionnel, these producers operated in total isolation without access to the global stage. By following a set of rigorous production standards set by the producers themselves —including the use of organic sugarcane, hand-harvesting, wild yeast fermentation, and small-batch pot still distillation — The Spirit of Haiti created a framework that celebrates the integrity of these spirits while providing the infrastructure needed for international distribution (bottling, labeling, exporting).
The company serves as a dedicated route to market for small-scale producers, functioning as a bridge between remote communal distilleries and the global spirits community. The Spirit of Haiti champions individual "Grand Cru" distillers, bottling their spirits at still strength to showcase the specific terroir of regions like Saint-Michel de l'Attalaye and Baradères.
This partnership model has transformed a local agricultural staple into a world-class spirits category, ensuring that traditional Haitian craftsmanship remains economically viable and celebrated by enthusiasts worldwide.
