Artist Tamdhu 2006
T he Tamdhu distillery opened in 1897 at Knockando in Speyside. Equipped with 3 Wash Stills and 3 Spirits Stills, it used two different sources of water: a local spring called Tamdhu Spring for malting and production, and Knockando Burn for cooling. Closed from 1911 to 1913, and again from 1927 to 1948, it doubled its production capacity in 1972. During one of its periods of closure, the distillery was used as a warehouse for Glenrothes. Today, much of the pro duction is used in the Famous Grouse, J&B and Cutty Sark blends. The distillery is also famous for its very precise sherry cask ageing (full or, more rarely, finish).
