CARONI PARADISE #12
Beginning production in 1918, Caroni was the state distillery of Trinidad. Until its closure in 2002, it produced light & heavy rums mainly for blends and only rarely producing bottlings under its own label. In 2004, Luca Gargano, chairman of Velier, discovered the hundreds of casks stored in the distillery’s warehouse. This led to Velier initially acquiring a portion of the stock, followed by further acquisitions through the partnership with La Maison du Whisky (now collaborating as a joint venture, La Maison & Velier). More than 80 unique bottlings were released and are now among the rarest and most collectible rums in the world.
Caroni Paradise pays homage to this legacy through a collection of rare single casks distilled in the 1990s and illustrated by Trinidadian artist Che Lovelace, whose vibrant and dreamlike works blend magical realism and abstraction, offering a contemporary reflection of Caribbean life and color. This single cask was matured in Trinidad and Tobago until 2019 before being brought to Cognac, France and aged in demijohns. An outstanding Caroni, the flavor and aroma palette is rich and plentiful and takes our senses on an intense journey.
