NRJ CAMBRIDGE

National Rums of Jamaica LTD (NRJ) stands as a powerhouse of Caribbean heritage, a unique partnership between the Jamaican government, West Indies Rum Distillery of Barbados, and Demerara Distillers of Guyana. This consortium preserves the legacy of two of the island's most critical production sites: the legendary Long Pond Distillery and Clarendon Distillery. During the 19th-century peak of Jamaican rum, the island was home to over a hundred estates, primarily serving as the "engine room" for British blenders. In this era, distilleries focused on bulk marks rather than house labels, creating a vast library of distinct flavor profiles that defined the "Jamaican Funk."

Among the most storied of these lost legacies is the Cambridge Estate, a distillery that once stood in the Trelawny parish and was renowned for its high-ester, heavy pot still rums before it ceased operations. Today, Long Pond carries the torch for this defunct estate, utilizing its technical mastery of fermentation and "dunder" management to meticulously reproduce historical marks. This particular expression belongs to the STCE (Simon Thomson Cambridge Estate) category—a high-ester mark that serves as a liquid reincarnation of the pungent, aromatic rums once produced at the original Cambridge site.

Distilled at Long Pond and aged entirely in Jamaica’s tropical climate within ex-bourbon barrels, this STCE edition boasts a formidable ester count of 550–700 gr/hLPA. While its youth was defined by intense medicinal and empyreumatic elements, a decade of tropical maturation has softened the spirit into a complex masterpiece. The palate has evolved to reveal layers of creamy vanilla, powdery floral tones, and vibrant exotic fruits, culminating in a signature cocoa-rich retro-nasal finish. It is a profound bridge between Jamaica's storied past and its modern renaissance.
