ARTIST SERIES #15 Mortlach 35 Year
The Artist #15 range, The Dark Side of the Moon, explores the profound influence of Andalusian sherry maturation through six single casks distilled between 1989 and 2015. Featuring malts from Speyside (Benrinnes, Linkwood, Mortlach, and a mystery distillery) and the Highlands (Ben Nevis, Ardmore), the series ranges from Oloroso to Pedro Ximénez finishes. The title pays homage to both the 1970s rock classic and a legendary 1990s Velier Glen Grant series, bridging the gap between historical tradition and modern curation.
The collection is visually defined by South African artist Sthenjwa Luthuli, whose contemporary Zulu-inspired aesthetic transforms hand-carved, painted wooden panels into hypnotic, optical compositions. Notably, the artwork for the "Dark Side of the Moon" bottling is sourced directly from Luca Gargano’s private collection, symbolizing the deep intersection of fine art and rare whisky within this release.
The oldest whisky in the Artist #15 range dedicated to sherry cask maturation, this single malt takes us to the oldest of the six Scottish distilleries located in the village of Dufftown, the self-proclaimed Whisky Capital of the World. Founded in 1823 by James Findlater, Mortlach was mothballed from 1837 to 1851 and used first as a church and then as a brewery. It doubled the number of stills on site from three to six in 1897 and practises an unusual partial triple distillation (2.8). Offering a magnificent voyage through time, this bottling reveals interlacing chapters of fruit, herbal infusions, honey, wax, spices, chocolate and malt whose patina and nobility prove to be infinitely poetic.
